The Angel’s Share of Whisky
This is a term referenced by whisky makers and collectors alike but what exactly is the Angel’s Share, and why does it matter? When making whisky, some of the liquid mysteriously disappears during maturation and it isn’t because someone is siphoning off the cask while they wait for it to mature. More boringly, it simply evaporates. This is more affectionately known as “the Angel’s Share”.1 As the cask “breathes”, tiny amounts of alcohol and water leave, and oxygen

‘Scotch’ in Scotland
‘Scotch’ in Scotland When you first start exploring whisky, it can be confusing: there are lots of styles, countries, and flavour profiles. Water and Whisky
Scotch whisky is often enjoyed with a couple of drops of water-but does this improve the flavour, or is it simply part of the ritual? At Devon Drams, our community ranges from seasoned tasters to the whisky curious and I’m in the latter camp. I still remember working behind a Glaswegian bar, staring blankly as regulars reeled off the names of obscure Whisky’s, knowing it would take me at least five minutes to track them down on the miscellaneous Whisky and Bourbon Shelf.

2. To Whisk – Y or EY? HOW DO YOU SPELL whISKY/wHISKEY?
Perhaps you have just discovered Whisky or have attended a Devon Drams event- you might head to google in search of more information- however you are faced with the question ‘’How do I spell Whisky/Whiskey?’’ as both options pop up in the search bar suggestions. I have collated some entomology to answer the question and hopefully relinquish any feelings of guilt around improper usage and referenced them below: whiskey noun whis·key ˈ(h)wi-skē variants or whisky plu

Why should I attend a Whisky tasting in Devon?
Devon is known for dramatic coastlines, winding single track-lanes, friendly people and cream teas. However, behind the scenes there is a small but welcoming community of Whisky enthusiasts. Our corner of the world gives a unique environment to try Whisky, relaxed evenings where experts can share their notes and those who are simply curious are free to come a long and try. At Devon Drams we host tastings throughout the year and welcome guests from across Devon and
